My Mutt

Just this past summer, I took it upon myself to buy a dog from the humane society. The exact day was the day of my last final of my freshman year of college. For the previous few days, I had been thinking about getting a dog, but I didnt think about what type of job it would be. So, when I got to Brunswick, I went to the humane society and picked up the dog I wanted. She was a cute little puppy with blonde looking hair and a black mask. She was scared at first but quickly became comfortable with my family. She started chewing everything up within the first month, because she was teething. So, we had to start buying her toys, but they were destroyed within the first few days. Now many months have passed, and she has grown a lot bigger. She still chews up everything, but she’s the sweetest dog I have ever owned. She has grown into the most playful and loving dog I have ever seen. She wouldn’t hurt a fly, and I can’t wait to go home for christmas break so I can spend time with my mutt.

The Holiday Month

The month of December marks the end of a long twelve month year and starts the beginning of a new year. This month is the most holiday filled month of the year that brings everyone together. December is the time when it’s cold weather and bonfires with the family and friends. It’s the time for family gathering and celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. The day of Christmas is a most joyful time for most people, because it brings family together, and this is the time for opening presents. Nothing describes christmas better than presents. You can’t forget the delcious food that is prepared for christmas similar to thanksgiving dinner. The other major holiday that finds it’s home in December is New Year’s Eve. New Year’s Eve brings friends and family together to celebrate the passing year and welcome a new and hopefully prosperous year. Also, this night is probably the biggest party night of the year.

Favorite Movie

Just the other day, I had nothing to do, so I layed around all day and watched t.v.. When I turned the channel, I came across one of my favorite movies. The Green Mile was this great film that I enjoy to watch when I get a chance. The film is based on the fiction story by none other than Stephen King. This movie is one of my favorites, because it’s a movie that that can truly capture your imagination with the miracles performed by the inmate John Coffey who was wrongly arrested for the murders of two young girls. It also inludes many other characters such as other inmates and guards that make the movie diverse in many ways. It’s a movie that can make you laugh one second, then make you cry the next. In my opinion, this is my favorite movie of all time because it’s just one of those movies that I can only explain as nothing but great.

Thanksgiving

Every year in late November, people all over America look forward to the day of the great feast, Thanksgiving. This day is a day of family and food, and I get pumped weeks before it happens. I enjoy this time because the whole family will get together at my nana and papa’s house and spend time together before we start digging in the food. But, for me, I enjoy this day because of the food. At about lunch time, we go to my nana meg’s house and she always cooks up some food in particular that I like. She cooks the traditional turkey, but the the food I love the most is the ham. The ham she cooks just makes my mouth water everytime I look at it. She also makes some sweet potato souffle that has a sweet taste to it that has me addicted. This meal is a great starter to the big meal that night at my other nana’s house. Every evening on Thanksgiving, my nana patricia makes the most amazing meal for everyone. This is my nana from the country, so she grew up knowing how to cook some good food. The range of food is so wide that I don’t even know where to start, but everything she cooks has the most wonderful taste. I make myself sick trying to eat evrything she prepares. This is definitely the ultimate thanskgiving dinner. But, after it’s over, I rest and start preparing for the two feasts we have on Christmas Eve and Christmas.

Halloween

It was a dark and stormy night on this halloween night and nobody was out. A lonely dirt road lined with mossy trees was all that laid ahead of me. As I walk alone, I hear the calls from crows and the howl of a wolf in the distance to frighten me more while I am trying to find my way down this dark road with no light but the dim luminance of the moon behind stormy clouds. Farther and farther I walk, but then I hear a moan that could only come from a person. As I travel farther down this road, I now stop in my tracks. I can barely see the silhouette of a body walking, moaning even more and coming closer. I then run into the woods to avoid whatever this may be walking towards me. As I get deeper into the woods, the moans are coming even closer. I then start running faster but whatever this thing is keeps coming closer and closer and I can’t seem to get away from it. I then stop to rest for a second to catch my breathe and as I do, I hear a moan directly behind my ear and then I am grabbed, only to be woken up from this thrilling dream by my mother on the morning of halloween. On the news that morning, the meteorologist says it’s going to be a dark and stormy night.

Midterms

Midterms have just taken place and that means only half a semester left of school. For many freshman this seems like it has already been a whole school year, but for me, it feels like its only been a couple of weeks. As a second year student, I now know what it feels like to be a college student and it’s a little overrated but it’s better than high school. With midterms over, I feel comfortable with the grades I have in most of my classes but a couple of the grades are that great. The time to drop a class has already passed and I’m not sure if I should have dropped a class or not. With only seven or eight more weeks left, maybe I can do better in those classes but I’m not sure if I have enough in me to do it. Hopefully my grades will be an early present at the end of the semester.

Hunting Season

It is October again and the hunting season is underway. The deer are moving and the hunters are sitting in the stands waiting to take their shots at the big bucks. As many people are excited, so am I, because this is my first season that I am hunting and I enjoyed the days I’ve already spent out in the woods. Primitive weapons season has just started, but it’s less than a week until gun season starts and this is when you will have your best shot at taking down that buck from long distance. My papa, whose heart is in hunting, is the primary reason that I am going hunting because for the last five years he has been bothering me to get my hunter’s safety course and I finally did this year. With one weekend of hunting under my belt and only seeing a rabbit and four turkeys, I’m still excited to go back out there and put my time in for my first buck.

GSU Football

So far this season the Georgia Southern Eagles have completed half of their games and it hasn’t been a joy ride. With six games completed they have posted a 3-3 record and that’s not the best way to start the first half of the season. It looks as though they have played the better teams already and have an easier schedule from here on out, but they must play good football to post a decent record. The biggest question people are asking is if they will make the playoffs or not by the way they have been playing this year. Two of their losses they have had more than 40 points scored on them while they could only manage to break 10 in one of those defeats. Will Coach Hatcher be fired if they miss the playoffs for another year? I guess we will all have to wait and see but in the mean time….Go Eagles!!

Best Friends

On my next paper for my English class I have to write about a certain topic and that topic will be friends that are like family. In my life I have made many friends but I only consider a few of them to be like family to me. The thing that makes these people important to me is how they treat me as a person and how they’re always wanting to spend their time with me. I enjoy these people because I can always be honest with them and they understand me as a person just as I understand them. For these people I would help them with anything in their time of need because they are like my brother in a way. I am choosing this topic to write about because this has always been a subject that has played an important role in my life and these people have helped shape my life into what it is now.

Healthcare Reform

In today’s politics, the most popular topic is healthcare reform. On almost any news network you can find something being debated on the different aspects of the healthcare bill. But, in my opinion there should be no debate on this bill other than to throw it out. This bill is going to make healthcare socialized in the United States which is too much goverment control in our lives. Some socialism is good but socialized healthcare in this form is bad for the U.S.. The senior citizens in this bill are going to be left stranded because the government will make decisions on if the person’s life is worth paying for to stay alive or to not spend the money because it would cost too much money for them and to set up death panels. Not only that, the passing of this bill would put us into a greater debt that would probably be impossible to get oursleves out of within the next few decades. I agree that there should be some healthcare reform in the United States but this bill is the wrong way to new healthcare in america.
